Meet Evan

"Getting outdoors in nature is therapy."

Evan is a qualified climbing guide and mental health nurse who helps people feel more confident outdoors. He started WOOT to combine his love of climbing with his work in mental health and wellbeing.

His goal is to help people explore their adventurous side safely, confidently, and at their own pace.

Off the clock, you'll still find him at the crag. Evan is properly obsessed with climbing, and it's catching: expect easy laughs, lots of encouragement, and a guide who's genuinely stoked every time you reach the top.

FAQ

Questions

I'm scared of heights. Can I still do this?

Yes, and lots of people who book feel the same way. You're on a top rope the whole time, you choose how high you go, and you can come down whenever you like.

Do I need experience or to be fit?

No. Sessions suit complete beginners through to experienced climbers. If you can walk 20 minutes on a bush track, you can do a session. We pace it to you.

Is it safe?

Climbing always carries some risk, and we manage it carefully. You're on a top rope that Evan, an ACIA qualified guide, sets up and checks. You wear a helmet the whole time, every session starts with a safety briefing, and WOOT is insured and first aid certified.

What should I bring?

Clothes for changing weather, sun protection, lunch, at least 2 litres of water, and any medications you need. We provide all climbing gear.

How does the deposit work?

You pay a deposit by bank transfer to secure your date. We email you the balance details 3 days before your session. See the cancellation policy for changes and refunds.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If it's unsafe to climb, we'll move your session to another day that suits you. If that doesn't work, we'll refund you in full.

Can I come on my own?

Yes. Go Outdoor Climbing and Bang for Your Buck can be booked for 1 person. The Taster needs at least 2.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes, climbers need to be 8 to 80 years old. Under-18s need a parent or guardian to complete their form.

Will it just be our group?

Yes. Each session is just for your booking, with up to 4 climbers per guide.

I have an injury or health condition. Can I still climb?

Often, yes. Each climber's form asks about anything that could affect them on the day, and only Evan and our website administrator can see those answers. If he needs to check anything, he'll be in touch before your session. Not sure? Get in touch before you book.

Where do we meet, and are there toilets?

We send the exact meeting point, parking and a map in your confirmation email.

Can you give me a lift?

Yes. Transport from Perth to the Perth Hills is available for an extra fee. Add it when you book.

Do you accept NDIS funding?

WOOT isn't a registered NDIS provider at the moment. If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you may be able to use it with an unregistered provider, so check with your plan manager or support coordinator first. We can give you an itemised invoice.

Can I book for more than 4 people?

Sessions are usually up to 4 climbers per guide so everyone gets real time on the rock. For bigger groups, schools or work events, get in touch and we'll work out the options.

Can I buy a session as a gift?

Gift vouchers are coming soon. For now, get in touch and we'll sort something out.
